8/25/2018 0 Comments The Morning Routine For Self CareBeing a student, it is super easy to get lost in the necessities of your morning. It's tempting to sleep in until you have to get up, then do what you have to in order to prepare for school. Many of us end up throwing on clothes and making the easiest breakfast we can think of. This can become second-nature to us, but we are missing a huge opportunity to improve ourselves. In your first hour of being awake, there is potential for great self-care and growth. You can take these simple steps toward making your morning the best it can be, and creating a nurturing waking environment. 1. Early Early Early An essential portion of creating a nice morning routine is setting your alarm back an hour or two earlier than what you might be used to. It's easy to think a few extra hours of sleep will make your day better, but the opposite can be true. By giving yourself the extra time to slowly wake up and take in your morning, you can set yourself up for the best day possible. Take into consideration how you wake up. Give yourself time to take it slow, as feeling rushed and speeding through your morning can put a serious damper on the rest of your day. 2. Tidy Your SpaceEvery morning is a restart for your brain. While you were sleeping, it filed away all of the information you retained the previous day. This is why the early morning is the best time to file away your space. By taking some time to clean up your room, make your bed and draw the curtains, you are giving your brain a jumpstart on a peaceful mindset. This will also help you later on in the morning when you prepare to get ready. You won't be rushing through clutter and mess, allowing you to continue your calm routine. Then, when you get home that afternoon, you will have a neat space to finish work, read or relax. 3. Wholesome Breakfast Setting aside time in your morning to sit down and fuel your body is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Even if you aren't much of a breakfast-eater (like me), take your time making some toast or oatmeal. If you drink coffee or tea, enjoy each soothing sip. Use this moment to think about how you want your day to play out. Think about the nourishment that you plan to give your body and mind today. 4. Planner/Journal TimeThis next step in your morning routine further helps lay out the potential of your day and help you prepare to take on everything it has to offer. If you don't already make use of a planner, I suggest this. It's a great way to keep your mind at peace, as no plans or responsibilities are left floating around. If it is the beginning of the week, write down your personal goals and tasks. Review things you have already written and get a grip on today's layout. Once you've done this (or if you have decided not to utilize a planner), you can open up a journal. Write down anything that is on your mind this morning. Use your journal to organize your thoughts, worries or ideas for today. This will help clear your mind for the day to come, and aid you in being calm and collected. 5. Put On Your Monday BestEarlier I mentioned that it is easy to throw on clothes, or gather your hair into a messy bun. That sounds nice, but hear me out: You're up earlier now, you have time to make yourself feel good by looking good. If this means to you that you will brush your hair or put on a pair of jeans instead of sweats, that's perfect. Take a small extra step when getting ready to look a little better than you would if you got ready hurriedly. It can give your mentality a huge boost if you leave this morning with a tad bit more confidence, allowing you to get more done during the day. 6. Prep ChecklistBefore you leave for the day, make a list on your phone or a pad of paper. Write down everything you need to pack, and get prepping. This way, you can organize your thoughts and avoid forgetting important items at home.
You can better the effectiveness of this step by doing it the night before school. Once you've packed and checked off the items on your list, you will feel accomplished as everything you need is physically listed. This will aid you in feeling grounded and organized in your morning routine.
